IMPORTANT REMINDER
Allergies within the setting – we are a Nut and Egg free zone. Please do not send your child with any nut/nut products or egg/egg products in his/her packed lunch. This also includes food such as Nutella spread, peanut butter etc.
Before a child seeks to start at the setting we as a provider must obtain information about any special dietary requirements, preferences and food allergies that the child has, and any special health requirements. We then record and act on information from parents and carers about a child’s dietary needs. Some of these are more severe and can change over time so for the safety of the children we are a nut and egg free setting. We will always update parents at the earliest convenience of any updates with regards to these.

Ideas for Children’s Packed Lunches
We would politely request that packed lunches and drinks bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Savouries
- Why not use cutters to make sandwiches more exciting e.g. stars, circles, teddies, butterflies etc.
- Pasta salads; Crackers and cheese; Bread sticks and dips; Cheesy biscuits; Filled pitta bread; Filled wraps.
(When choosing a savoury for lunch remember to choose just one option e.g. sandwich or pasta).
Fruit or Vegetable Options
- Carrot or Cucumber Sticks with dips; Berry Selection;Cucumber shapes; Banana; Grapes (cut in half lengthways).
Puddings
- Yoghurts; Oranges cut into segments; Jelly; Apples; Strawberries; Angel delight; Cold custard; Rice pudding.
Portion sizes
- Children are provided with a snack and a drink during both am and pm sessions, so please be aware of portion sizes when preparing their packed lunches.
- Children are smaller than adults and that applies to their tummies too e.g. if you include grapes in their packed lunches there only needs to be enough to fill the palm of their hand.
- 5 a day – children’s 5 portions of fruit and vegetables are best spread throughout the day rather than taken in one sitting.
- It is better to offer children less choice in their lunches as too much choice can sometimes overwhelm them and they may not eat anything.
- When trying out new or different foods with children always give a small portion and spread this over a period of time as it will give them a chance to get used to it.
- Additional fats –children under 5 do not need additional fats such as crisps and cakes in their daily diet.
