Some areas our SENCO is responsible for are listed below:
- The SENCO and/or Manager have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy.
- Arrange annual reviews of children who have Educational Health Care Plans.
- Ensures early indentification of children who have special needs by working with parents/carers and other outside agencies e.g. Educational Psychologists; Speech Therapists; Physiotherapists.
- Co-ordinate extra support for the children, if required, and prepares Individual Learning Plans if required.
Our setting at the Methodist Church, Station Road, has a wheelchair ramp at our main entrance and the entrances to out outdoor areas. We also have an accessible toilet area and a large room with space to re-arrange furniture if required.
Staff Development
Our staff attend, where possible, training associated with Special Educational Needs arranged through North East Lincolnshire Council and other professional bodies. They have also attended courses to develop their knowledge and to enable them to put strategies in place for supporting children with SEN. Courses attended have included autism awareness, Makaton sign and say, behaviour management and sensory processing. This training is updated as and when required.
